The birds are singing, the sun is shining and it's finally SPRING. Which means Spring Break trips, picnics outside, and potentially lots of time on the sidelines of older siblings' spring sports. Time for some new activities!
Our Spring pouch subscription contains 3 new pouches and 1 loose creative.
(PS, don't have a pouch subscription yet? You can sign up anytime here. Our pouches ship every 3 months, depending on when you first place your order. The activities in our pouches change after those 3 months to ensure you always get new activities, no matter when you signed up).
What's Coming This Spring?
Pouch 1: Wooden Shadow Puzzle
Our wooden shadow puzzle consists of domino-style tiles, each featuring a silhouette (shadow) on one side and a corresponding full-color image on the other. Kiddos match the shadow image to a full color corresponding object, reinforcing critical thinking, visual discrimination, and early problem-solving skills.
Why We Love It: Matching shadows to objects encourages early problem-solving, classification, and visual discrimination, all foundational skills for pre-reading and mathematical thinking. Identifying shadow outlines sharpens observation skills, and helps your little learner recognize shapes, details, and spatial relationships. As your child names and describes the objects, they build vocabulary, strengthen communication skills, and engage in meaningful discussions. In addition, picking up and aligning the domino pieces strengthens finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination, which are essential for future writing skills. We love it when there is an opportunity to play cooperatively with peers or caregivers, which fosters turn-taking, patience, and confidence as children experience success in problem-solving.
We know there are a lot of pieces, but this allows for multiple ways to play. Here are a few different options:
-Classic Matching – Match each shadow to its correct object, reinforcing recognition skills.
-Memory Challenge – Flip the tiles over and try to remember where the matches are, building working memory.
-Sorting & Categorizing – Group objects by themes (animals, transportation, nature) to practice classification skills.
- Storytelling Prompt – Use the images as story starters, encouraging creativity and language expression.
Pouch 2: Transportation Puzzle
Kiddos are naturally fascinated by the world around them, and transportation is often a topic of great excitement and enthusiasm. Our engaging puzzle features thick cardboard pieces, each displaying a colorful image of a vehicle (e.g., airplane, bicycle, train) and its printed name in clear, bold letters. The pieces fit together like a traditional puzzle.
Why we love it: Seeing words alongside familiar images helps your child connect spoken and written language, reinforcing early reading skills. As kiddos match puzzle pieces, they practice spatial reasoning, logical thinking, and shape recognition. Manipulating and connecting pieces strengthens hand muscles essential for writing and self-care tasks. When your kiddos' name, describe, and talk about different modes of transportation, they expand their vocabulary and conversation skills. We love reinforcing learning about how people and goods move from place to place while sparking curiosity about science, geography, and technology.
Pouch 3: Silicone Animals
Our bright, colorful, soft, and durable silicone elephant and butterfly will undoubtedly engage your kiddos. The surface of each side has different textured patterns that provide sensory stimulation. Both animals come with longer pieces that children can push into the recessed areas of the toy, creating customized patterns and color designs. It is fun for kiddos and adults too! :)
Why we love it: Pressing and placing the pieces strengthens the small muscles in the hands and fingers, which are crucial for future writing and self-care tasks like buttoning and zipping. When your little learner aligns and fits pieces within the puzzle, it encourages shape recognition, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills. We love that with two different designs to explore, children can experiment with patterns, sequencing, and imaginative play, fostering flexible thinking and creativity. The soft, squishy silicone textures provide a soothing sensory experience, which can be especially beneficial for kiddos who need calming activities.
As your child describes their designs and discusses their patterns, they build vocabulary, storytelling abilities, and communication skills. Use the elephant and butterfly as characters in a story, promoting language development and creativity. We love letting kiddos explore the textures and discuss their feelings, supporting sensory processing and emotional awareness.
Loose Creative
Who is ready for SPRING?? We are! And we are excited about our bug face sticker sheets! Kids love to express their creativity, and our Bug Face Sticker Sheets provide the perfect opportunity for open-ended play while strengthening essential early learning skills! These interactive sticker sheets allow children to design and customize their own bug faces—choosing from various eyes, mouths, antennae, and other fun features to bring their bugs to life.
Why we love it: Kiddos can make choices about how their bugs look, fostering imagination and decision-making skills. Matching and placing stickers within the bug outlines encourages spatial awareness, planning, and visual discrimination. When your kiddos peel and place stickers, it strengthens hand muscles, finger dexterity, and coordination, which are key to early writing skills. By describing the facial expressions they've created, they are building vocabulary and storytelling skills. In addition, experimenting with different eyes and mouths, lets children explore emotions and expressions, helping them to recognize and understand feelings in themselves and others. With the weather warming, we love pairing this activity with a nature walk to observe real insects and compare features!
